Junior High Wrestling
Mercedes Todd and Carson Thomas
March 4, 2020
After many weeks of practicing, the North Andrew Junior High wrestling team had their first match this Tuesday, March 3. The match took place at Tarkio beginning at 4:30 pm. Their second match will follow, being this Thursday at Stanberry. It will begin at 6:00. They have 5 wrestlers which include the following: Matthew Evans, John Riedinger, Avrey Miller, Marshall Todd, and Mattox Sybert. Due to injury, John Riedinger is currently just a supportive STAT keeper.
The wrestlers, unfortunately, have a rather short season. They only have four meets this year. Their third meet will take place at Albany on March 9, starting at 6 pm. Their fourth and final meet will take place in Nebraska City on March 12. It will begin at 6 as well.
Despite having a short season, the boys are very pumped for all of their meets. Mattox plans on going “John Cena” mode. Before his first meet, he said he was “ready to throw some kids through some tables”. After the meet at Tarkio, Matthew Evans said, “I felt the team was getting better every match. The moves were getting less sloppy. I hope our streak of all getting a pin keeps going or gets better”. After their first meet, all of the boys felt hopeful for the rest of their season. Good luck guys!

Coronavirus Spreading Into the U.S.
Kara Ehrhardt and Ashton Erickson
We know about the Coronavirus that began in Wuhan, but recently, the coronavirus has spread its way into the United States. There was an urgent plea for more data, and countries started to test more people more quickly so the world would understand the coronavirus more.
The virus has decreased in speed in China. The virus is spreading more quickly in the United States and other countries. In the United States, there were nearly 130 people who were affected in 16 states inside of the U.S. In California, there were thirty-three known cases, in Washington State, there are twenty-seven known cases, in New York, there is a total of six known cases, in Illinois, there are four known cases, In Florida, there are three, in Oregon, there are three, in Arizona, there are two cases, in Georgia, there are two, in Massachusetts, there are two, in New Hampshire, there are two, in North Carolina, there was one, in Rhode Island, there were two cases, and lastly, in Wisconsin, there was one case that was known. The United State’s president, Donald Trump, put the United States vice president, Mike Pence, in charge of the Coronavirus Task Force. There is a funding bill to address the coronavirus. Pence says that the treatments for this virus should be available within the next two months.
There are more than 93,000 cases of the virus and more than 3,200 died from the coronavirus around the world. 50,000 out of 93,000 have survived the virus. At the time of writing this article, there are a total of 95,147 cases, and 3,252 deaths. We have interviewed the MS/HS science teacher, Mrs. Hawkins, about what she thought about the coronavirus spreading into the U.S., and she said, “It is like any virus but it is scary because it is a newer virus. It is helpful that there is a vaccine that is going to trial. Everyone should wash their hands and stay away from unhealthy habits.” We hope everyone stays healthy and we will ask to please wash your hands.

North Andrew Snow Week
Ryan Coats and Kaleb Chittum
We had last Friday the 17th, off for snow and the next Four days off after Martin Luther King day. This resulted in no courtwarming week and no spirit week, games and dance have all been moved to a later date. This past week we had spirit games in seminar as a fun way to challenge each class to see what they know the game we played was family feud. The questions had been asked to the whole North Andrew High school. But back to the weather.
The school calendar has changed from required days to requires hours. For all schools in Missouri, you are required 1044 hours. North Andrew School District has a total of 1161. The total days missed this year has been a total of seven which is equivalent to about 47.6 hours. With that in mind, we have a total of 48 hours left. The old requirement used to be 168 days. Other schools around the area have already used up all their extra days.
The missed days will result in rushed courses, quick catch up days and other ways of trying to fix the days we have missed. And possibly can hurt the EOC scores and MAP testing scores. All in all, the school will continue to thrive to make the school year as best as it can be and finish the year off however they need to.

High School Girls Basketball Preview
Cayden Carter and Kaleb Chittum
Hello, I’m Cayden Carter and I’m Kaleb Chittum and your watching NAC news on the topic of high school girls basketball. It looks like they’re going to have a great year this year. And here are a few reasons why. This year Cambrian Roush and Malayna Briner are team captains, both girls show great enthusiasm and passion for the sport. With three seniors, the team that will not let that stop them on the court, with a bunch of freshmen and a few juniors and sophomores the team will rise to great heights this year. In an interview with Coach Michaels, he stated,
Our goal every year is similar for us, we want to put the best team we can every night on the floor. Our girls want to show our community that they appreciate their support by playing as hard as they can and making games as exciting and competitive as possible.
We plan on reaching this goal by our style of practice. We make sure that practice is both fun and intense, the girls are held to an extremely high standard. As coaches, we believe that you play like you practice. If you ever come to a practice of ours, you will notice that most drills we conduct are game speed, we pump noise into our practices to make sure that our girls can focus and execute in any environment.

2019 Cross Country Season
November 5, 2019
Eli Lillard and Cayden Carter
2019 has been a special year for the North Andrew cross country team. Two student atheletes earned their spot to compete at State. The North Andrew girls team placed 3rd overall and there was no score for the boys since there are only two boys on the team, Eli Lillard and Ezra Mohn.. Malayna, a senior and Jaclyn, a freshmen are our only cross-country runners who are going to state. Malayna placed 8th in the recent cross country district meet and Jaclyn had earned first place in the district.. he cross country team has worked extremely hard this year. Even though the team didn’t have the speed of Ryan Wilmes, Or the foreign exchange student Michal Brabec, who had made the cross country a much more fun sport by joining in on 3 mile runs. he cross country team nearly never took off a day, even in the sleet, the cross country team was out working hard to get the medals. It sounds like the cross country team had a tough year though, they still pushed through all of the pain but a few of them were able to make it to state, and hopefully next week we’ll see them return home with a shiny medal.

“Trick-or-Treat”
Karalenay Ehrhardt and Madison Ecker
October 31 is the day that many children around the world wait for, even some adults. Every year in October, the holiday Halloween is celebrated. Children dress up in a costume and go from home to home getting treats. Unlike most holidays, Halloween is known for a darker and scarier setting. It is known for any fears that some may have including spiders, witches, ghosts, monsters, blood, and many other things. The origin of Halloween comes from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. This was a ritual to scare away any spirits. Over the years, Halloween was celebrated for children to go from house to house and get small treats from the homeowners.
This year, the North Andrew Elementary students have a Halloween parade. Each student is allowed to dress up in a costume and have a small parade around the gym, showing off their amazing costumes. The parade goes by each class. We have asked some of the elementary students what their favorite part about Halloween is.
In kindergarten, Dallis Ebrecht says
First-grader Kaylee Home says
In the second grade, Rugar Herbert says
Third-grader Hilde Wheeler’s Favorite part about Halloween is “Candy”, this year, she will be a “Time Traveler”, Hilde’s favorite part about the parade is “seeing everyone dressed up”
Fourth-grader, Jackson Curran’s favorite part about Halloween “getting candy and eating it” He is going to be “Steve from Minecraft”, his favorite part about Halloween is “ Getting to see some amazing costumes”
Fifth-grader Kayten Roberts explains
We hope everyone had an amazing Halloween this year and hope that everyone was safe.

Dress code
Cade Thomas
Ashton Erickson
A dress code is a rule that limits what a student can wear. Dress codes in schools are used to stop students from wearing something that shows a lot of skin, promotes drug or alcohol use, and clothes that promote violence or hate.
Some schools have a uniform that you have to wear rather than other schools that are more flexible with dress codes. Some schools go too far and prohibit wearing ripped jeans, other schools barely do anything and let people wear what they want to no matter how much skin is showing.
The dress code page in the North Andrew handbook is page 23. The part of the handbook states standing up with arms to your side your fingertips should touch fabric and not the skin for shorts and skirts.
Madison Lillard says that “ I don’t like the dress code” she also said that the policy on shorts can be improved upon.” but that the policy on yoga pants is correct for wanting to cover the butt.” Carson Thomas stated, “I think the dress code is ridiculous because everybody should be able to wear what they want to.”
Some ways the school can enforce dress codes is to only sell clothes that the dress code allows, or make sure parents know about the dress code prior to the start of the school year so they know how to shop for their student or students.
Road Trippin' to Victory
By Sophie Hunziger and Ryan Coats
This past week at North Andrew High school was homecoming. This year's homecoming theme was Road Trippin’ to Victory. Each class had to choose a State and build a float and design a poster to correspond with said state. The Sophomores choosing California did not have enough numbers to create a successful float, landing them to earn last place. The third-place float going to Nevada, or the seniors were well thought out but not executed. The Juniors creating a colorado themed float earned second to the outstanding Freshman float of Hawaii.
In the poster competition the Freshman got fourth, Sophomores got third, Juniors second, and Seniors first. The dress-up days consisted of Monday - Western Day, Tuesday- Tourist Day, Wednesday - Beach Day and Thursday - Hippie Day. In the dress-up competition, the Sophomores came in last, followed by the Freshman, the Juniors taking second, and the Seniors obtaining first. The 2019 Homecoming Spirit Stick was awarded to the Seniors. Congratulations Senior class of 2020. We got an interview with McKinley Lillard on his opinions of winning the spirit stick.
Along with this friendly competition, there was a dodge-ball tournament. The Junior's reigned supreme on the dodge-ball court, beating all the other classes and the staff. Placing second barely losing to the Juniors was the Freshman.
The parade was held in Rosendale around the community building. Thank you, everyone, who was in the parade and made it a great success.
For this Homecoming the queen candidates were Maggie Grishow, Cambrian Roush, Gabby Chambers, and Malyana Briner. The King candidates were Kennan Shunk, Wyman Wheeler, Bradyn Brinks, and McKinley Lillard. When the royalty was crowned Malyana Briner got the queen and Bradyn Brinks received the king. #THEBROWNS
At the end of all the homecoming madness, the North Andrew Football team brought it home with an exciting victory over Oceola. To celebrate the highschool student council held a dance in the cafeteria. Thank You all who participated and offered their time to make our Road trip to victory a success.

This Year: Football
By Wyman and Ryan Last Friday, the North Andrew High School Football team debuted at the 2019 jamboree at Pattonsburg. Three other teams played with North Andrew, including hosts Pattonsburg, Platte Valley, and Dekalb. On North Andrew’s first offensive play, starting fullback Coby Ethridge went down due to a blow to the ankle. Coby’s time off the field was limited and he went back in on the defensive set. Coby was joined in the backfield by tailback Hayden Ecker and quarterback Jaden Baker. Blocking for them on the line were left end Clayton Linville, left guard Kaleb Chittum, center Jacob Chittum, right guard Wyman Wheeler, and left end, McKinley Lillard. Feedback from the jamboree was mostly positive. Overall, Pattonsburg scored the most points of the night with a total of 36 points to 18 points scored. Platte Valley followed with 24-18. North Andrew had 18-24 and DeKalb had 30-50. Jaden Baker said that he thought the jamboree went ok. When asked, Baker said, “We went to the games and figured out what we needed to work on,” Baker said that that was the whole point of the jamboree. Under the coaching of Dwayne Williams, his son “Coach Junior”, and Guy Speckmann, the North Andrew Football Team hopes to do great things this season. The Cardinal’s season officially kicks off this Friday where the Cardinals will take on the King City WildKats at their home field. Kickoff time is 7 PM, so get out there and flex your school spirit! |

ASVAB Testing
By Kaleb Chittum and Cayden Carter
This is Kaleb Chittum from NAC News on Monday, October 21 here at North Andrew, we had ASVAB Testing which is a test that stands for The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. The ASVAB consists of ten short tests to complete for three hours or less. An ASVAB test administrator will give instructions and tell students how long they have to complete each test. However, before students begin, they will have a chance to answer some practice questions and ask any questions about taking the test.
During the ASVAB test you will be tested on different subjects, such as Math, paragraph comprehension and so forth. The main point of the asvab test is to see what career you would do well in. the military has so many great benefits and one week after the test some members from different branches will come in to talk to the students
The normal or average score for a highschool student is anywhere from 40-60. The highest score here at North Andrew was a score of 90 and by Madi Yarborough. Since madi scored so well on her test many people will be interested in having her as part of there team but ultimately it's up to the student to make the decision. When making this decision you shouldn’t just do it in the moment give time to think and learn more and more about what you would sign up for.
