Prom 2019
By Sophia R. Hunziger
On April 13, 2019, North Andrew hosted their “Enchanted Forest” Prom. This year's Prom was decorated by the Juniors. Prom consisted of Pictures at Krug Park, dinner with their dates, Promenade, dancing, and after prom. Before Prom began there was Promenade. After Promenade, the students and their dates took pictures in front of a waterfall backdrop, that had a miniature pond with 2 dozen goldfish and ½ dozen bull head. The North Andrew Prom King and Queen were Emily Cole and Logan Hughes. There was a photo booth at Prom. It was fun to watch everybody goof around with the props and take funny pictures. Later that night APE (After Prom Extravaganza) started. After prom consisted of food, a hypnotist, bounce houses, movies, and many prizes. I asked Wyman Wheeler and Hannah Raymond what the most memorable parts of prom was Wyman said “Watching Hunter (Grimes) eat a live fish.” and Hannah said “ Getting hit in the head during dodgeball by Ezra (Mohn).” Thank you to the Junior class for creating a fun and exciting prom for the North Andrew students and guests.

The Juniors won and their theme was “A Christmas Story.” After tallying the points for the week, the Seniors took home The Spirit Stick. The Spirit game this year was “Capture the Snowball”. The King candidates were Cy Black, Levi Linville, Gus Shunk, and Nicholas Taylor. The Queen Candidates were Faith Atkins, Emily Cole, Callie Smith, and Jaiden Wheat. North Andrew’s Great American Homecoming
Sophia R. Hunziger
October 1, 2018
This past week was Homecoming at North Andrew. Homecoming is a time when the students compete for the spirit stick, which was awarded to the Freshmen at the bonfire Thursday night. This year's competition was close. This year the seniors earned fourth. Sophomores earned third. Junior got second, and Freshman first. Along with the spirit stick, North Andrew had a bonfire, spirit games, float building, the parade, coronation, the football game, and the dance.
The Spirit Game this year was Pinball, which the Seniors won. Float Building was very entertaining this year. Malayna Briner stated “ The float building this year was a lot of fun! It was a great time to get closer to my classmates!” When all the floats were done Thursday, the judges went to view the floats. “First, I look for the float to match the theme. That is most important to me as not everyone can be a great artist, but can adhere to the theme of Homecoming. Then I look for effort that was put into the float. Does it match the number of people working on it? Lastly, I look for artistic expression, neatness, etc... “ Said Mr. Roush, a judge in this years float competition. In the float competition seniors earned fourth, sophomores received third, and juniors and freshman tied for first.
Friday was the parade, coordination, the game, and the dance. When asking Mr. Wiedmer if this is the biggest parade he has seen during his time at North Andrew he said: “I'd say yes, we had 39 entries.” At 6 pm that night was the homecoming court coordination. This years homecoming king was Michael Barbec and the Queen was Jentry Copple. The game started at 7 pm. The North Andrew football team played very well to defeated Chilhowee 62-0. The week ended with the North Andrew Student Council putting on the homecoming dance. Thank You to everyone who helped make this year’s All American Homecoming a success.

Dawn of Football
By: Michail Todd
When it comes to passion for the sport, North Andrew breathes football. For years, NA football players have trained to the greatest degree for each game. During each season, the school has been a strong contender in the competition. Although this season has only begun, it appears that it will certainly be interesting to watch.
On the night of August 24th, North Andrew faced King City. During the first half, King City gained the upper hand. At the final moments, NA attempted to make a solid comeback, but it was too late. With a score of 8-40, North Andrew had lost their first game.
The second game arrived on August 31st, at 7:00 p.m. Their rivals, the St. Joseph Christian Lions, had gained a six-point lead on the first minute of the game. In response, North Andrew pressured their opponents throughout the game, gaining 22 points during half time. The game ended during the middle of the fourth quarter, with North Andrew achieving a 36-6 victory.
After the game, I decided to ask three questions to the NA captains. The first captain was McKinley Lillard, also the first NA player to score that night.
Me: “How do you feel about this game, right now?”
Lillard: “Pretty good. We took care of business, ran down our throws, and played the game. I hope to do that again against Pattonsburg. I think this week, we’d lean on them, we just lean on them all game and we got to them and we took care of business. That’s all I got to say.
Me: “I have another question. What do you think brought this victory?”
Lillard: “Hard work and practice and determination will win.”
Me: “Any plans for next week?”
Lillard: “Lean on them.”
Upon finishing the interview, I had questions for Cy Black, another captain for the team.
Me: “How are you feeling about this game?”
Black: “We’re feeling great. We went out there, played our hardest, everything worked in our favor, and ready for next week, I’m prepared.
Me: “What do you think brought this victory?”
Black: “Us working hard. We worked on their scout team, offense, all week. We worked really hard on playing their games, so we can come out and get this win.”
Me: “Any plans for next week?”
Black: “Work hard, get their film, watch it, prepare, just like we did this week.”
Finally, I went after the final captain: Logan Hughes.
Me: “How did you feel about this game?”
Hughes: “I thought it was better than last week. Proved to people we can be contenders. I think it’s good to get a win under our belt, and it feels good.”
Me: “Any plans for next week?”
Hughes: “Just keep on playing hard and keep grinding.”
In conclusion, the North Andrew football team is working hard for this season. With each game, they will improve their techniques. There is no predictable outcome for the championships. However, North Andrew will certainly hold on to the competition.

The best quote of the year comes from Karson Wilmes, when he mentioned in front of the entire room, that he used to have a huge crush on Pippi Longstocking. Every team member contributed to our success this season."
The NAC news team would like to congratulate the 5th and 6th grade on their hard work this season, good job this year!

History of the Victory Bell
By Audrey Keck
October 5, 2018
Recently there has been a controversy between the football players and the softball players about the ringing of the victory bell. The softball players decided to ring the bell after one of their games and the football boys didn't like it. Some of the football boys think that only they should be able to ring to bell. I decided to do some research to see what the history of the bell is. I decided to ask a few students how they feel about the bell ringing.
Mr, Roush gave me some information about the bell. According to Mr. Roush, the victory bell was originally a bell on a steamship on the Missouri River. In the late 1800’s they removed the bell from the ship and brought it to Fillmore to be used in the school. It was kept in the bell tower at the school. Eventually, they removed the bell tower and it hung at the playground. It stayed there until the Fillmore school closed, then it was removed and stored in the basement of the Fillmore school. When the new school was being built, the high school football coach at the time, Jim Schultz, thought it would be cool for the bell to be used as a victory bell for the football team. So they got the bell fixed up again by a local resident at the time named, Danny Floyd, and it was displayed in a small tower built by the same bricks used in the crows nest and the concession stand. It then became a tradition for the football players to ring the bell after a victory. After researching the history of the bell, it was easy to see how the football players would be upset because of its tradition. Would it be bad for the softball players to ring the bell after their victory? Why not make new traditions, after all, we are all Cardinals and should share in each others success no matter what sport is being played.
