NAC NEWS Takes a trip to KQ2 and the Walter Cronkite Memorial
By: Cameron Coulter
April 25, 2017
The NAC News team took a field trip to KQ2 and swung by and took a tour of the Walter Cronkite Memorial at Missouri Western. There were a total of 4 people on the trip, Cameron, Tyler, John and Mr. Wiedmer. The boys began their journey to the big town of St. Joe around 10:00 in the morning. They drove to KQ2 and Alan Van Zant gave them a tour of their fantastic studio. We learned how they write their stories and we even got to witness them getting a phone call about their opening news story on their broadcast.
After their tour the boys headed to Buffalo Wild Wings to eat lunch. Cameron and Mr Wiedmer got the pleasure of getting their food for free but Tyler and Jon were not so lucky. After lunch they then began their journey driving to Missouri Western, once they got there, Amanda gave them a tour of the very fascinating memorial. After their tour they spoke with one of the head news team directors at Missouri Western. After their talk, the boys ended their trip and began the long dreaded trip back home.

North Andrew Receives New Water Fill Stations
By: Tyler Schuman
February 15, 2017
North Andrew has upgraded the water fountains here at the school. The school has purchased the new fountains that have the water bottle fill station attached. The station is located in the middle school hallway, but the high school is getting one soon. The students put their cups over the censor and it fills up the bottle. The fountain has a counter on the station that keeps track of how many water bottles it has replaced. The purpose of it is to save the plastic waste from the bottles.

Talent and Potential Lead The Band To New Heights.
By: Randy Singleton
October 12, 2016
North Andrew hired a new band director this year, Mr. Stephen Till. Mr. Till has several goals for the band. His goals this marching season are to “show signs of steady improvement over the year before. We are off to a good start this year, placing at the Southwest Iowa Band Jamboree at Clarinda, and I hope to see us continue that success at Missouri Western and Northwest.” Mr. Till was very proud of the kids at the Clarinda. The band did not place last year, so he enjoyed seeing the steady improvement of the group. The band was just 1 point shy of placing 6th this year.
Being in band takes a large amount time and effort to be good. Mr. Till feels that a lot of people underestimate the amount of focus, discipline, and hard work that goes into parade season. “We placed 7th out of 20 bands at Clarinda, and if you look at the scores across the board, that was no easy feat. As any other sporting activity, marching band takes a tremendous amount of work ethic and practice to become something special. Each and every member makes an impact on the group’s overall performance, so it’s important to work together as a team and really give it your all if you want to be one of the best.”
Mr. Till began the year with ambitions of starting up a Jazz Band and Indoor Drumline. “The jazz group hasn’t quite worked out as I had hoped, since our enrollment numbers were down. I’ve utilized that time by teaching jazz elements, articulations and songs with the group. We also use that time to further develop individual playing talents as well.” Till continued by talking about the drumline. “The drumline on the other hand has done a tremendous job. They meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:30am-7:30am, and they have learned 4 new melodies. I’m very excited to start taking the new drumline to competitions in the next few years.”
Mr. Till finished up by saying that he has a lot of faith in this group, and has told them many times, that he will take them as far as they are willing to work towards. “The talent and the potential is certainly there.”

North Andrew Hires New Art Teacher
By: Randy Singleton
September 25, 2016
The new K-12 Art teacher Mrs. Stephanie Madison was recently interviewed to help us get to know her a little better. Mrs. Madison is from Bethany, MO, She taught at St. Joe Christian prior to North Andrew. Mrs. Madison was asked about taking art early in her life, she stated “I did not take an art class at all when I was in high school. I actually did not think that art was a real job when I was in high school.” Mrs. Madison attended Missouri Western and when asked how she chose her profession she stated “I was shocked to see drawing was a college class. I don’t know why I didn’t realize art was a career but I had never been told you could be an artist as a career choice so I had no idea. I took drawing and realized I was pretty good at it and then I kept taking art classes and decided to major in art. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of teenagers and kids so I decided to go into art education and use art to reach out to young people.” While in college Mrs. Madison was part of G.A.S. (Griffon Art Society), and some other teacher educator organizations. She added, “ I was also very involved in the art department at Missouri Western. I highly recommend that college students get involved with the peers that they take classes with. Those were some of the best memories and closest relationships I ever had. Your college experience will be much richer if you fill it with people you have a lot in common with. You will be spending a lot of time on campus studying so you may as well find someone to study with.” Today Mrs. Madison is involved in her church, Grace Evangelical, where she volunteers in children’s ministry as a preschool teacher. She also volunteer at her kids schools (Central, Bode and Oak Grove in St. Joseph). Finally, we asked a few random questions such as her favorite color, animal, and snack. Mrs. Madison’s favorite colors are Blue and Green, she prefers dogs to cats, and her favorite gas station snacks are Pistachios and Coca Cola. Mrs. Madison is looking forward to getting to know more families and students at North Andrew and becoming more and more part of the North Andrew family while she is teaching here.

North Andrew Homecoming Week
By: Tyler Schuman
September 16, 2016
North Andrew homecoming week was September 6th- September 10th. The theme of homecoming was “Winning All Through the Decades.” The week began with school dress up days. The dress up days had the students dressing up in clothes from different decades through the 1900s and the distant future.
Wednesday started the float building process. The Sophomores won last year and were trying to repeat that success with another successful float. The freshman had the decade of the 1960s. They decorated their float as the Flintstones and put the cardinal in a Flintstone car. The sophomores made a Back to the Future float from the 1980s. The Junior class made a disco cardinal float that represented the 1970s. Then the seniors made a drive in movie theme from the 1950s.
On Thursday the bonfire was cancelled because of a lot of rain. When ask about the cancelled bonfire, Cameron Coulter said “I was pretty disappointed, I really wanted to watch the fire”. Many students were sad and upset over not having the bonfire.
On Friday the school parade was held in Rosendale. The freshman earned 4th with their float, the Seniors earned 3rd, the Juniors earned 2nd, and the Sophomores took 1st for the 2nd straight year.
The dance came around and many students were happy to show up. When ask about the dance Levi Linville said “I had a lot of fun dancing to all the different songs”. Dawson Mercer said “I went with my girlfriend; we had a lot of fun”.
The football game and coronation was pushed back to Saturday due to the weather. The cardinals won the game 70-6 over Kansas City East Christian at half time. Sophomore football player Logan Hughes stated “I think overall we did pretty good”. Another student Emily Cole said “I thought the North Andrew Cardinals played a really great game”. After the game coronation started and all the candidates moved out to the track. Allie Grace won as the homecoming queen and Deryk Goff won for homecoming king.

North Andrew Creates A News Team
By: Cameron Coulter
September 16,2016
North Andrew has started up a news team called NAC News. We cover stories over world news and school events. We have a twitter account @nacardinalnews and are gaining followers every day. Our goal is to put out a story every week and post them on our webpage. The webpage can be found at http://nacardinalnews.weebly.com/ We are striving everyday to get more followers and become more twitter famous. We hope to reach 100 followers and produce at least 2 news broadcasts a month by the end of the year.
We have plans to take a field trip to the KQ2 news station so we can learn from the pros and maybe get a shout out on their twitter page. We are in the process of getting a green screen so we can do our own news skits and have a cool background behind us while we are doing a broadcast.
Our news team consists of three geniuses: Tyler Schuman, Randy Singleton, and Cameron Coulter. Tyler and I are our two main news anchors, Randy is our cameraman.
Our goals for NAC news is to become successful, and maybe make some money for North Andrew.
If you see us around at a school event, come by and say hi. If you see something you want us to cover in our news broadcast, don't be afraid and come up and ask one of the members of the news team. We Are North Andrew!
